Michael Stephens, saxophonist and composer
Michael Stephens plays a Conn 6M alto saxophone made in 1947, with a Meyer 6 mouthpiece and Vandoren Java #3 reeds. His tenor is a later model King Super 20, and he uses a Vandoren mouthpiece with Java #3's.
With Osmosis from the beginning, Stephens can be heard on all of the band's recordings. Sunshower and A Little Peace, on the album Music, are his compositions. Perspectives also contains some of Michael's writing with the pieces Devotion, Evening Rain, Jacinta, and Kaleidoscope.
Stephens' favorite saxophonists include John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Bob Berg, Michael Brecker, and Donald Harrison.
